Discovery of the ALAMAU Experience 🏛️
Founded in 2013, ALAMAU is a leadership conference that mirrors the work of the AU, fostering diplomatic discussions, negotiations and solutions to pressing challenges facing Africa. In recent years, the conference has been held virtually, bringing together young leaders in a dynamic and innovative virtual environment. However, ALAMAU plans to resume its in-person format in 2023 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Inspired by the Model United Nations, ALAMAU envisions a future where the continent’s youth actively shape policies, forge international relationships and become a catalyst for transformative change.
An Opportunity for Emerging Leaders 🎓
ALAMAU invites high school students from the first year of high school, as well as recent graduates aged 15 to 19, to participate in this enriching experience. Whether you are a passionate advocate for Pan-African development or eager to hone your research, writing and public speaking skills, ALAMAU offers you a platform to learn, grow and shine. Join the conference as an individual delegate or as part of a school delegation accompanied by an educator.
Empowering Delegates Through Diplomacy 🤝
At the heart of the ALAMAU framework are parliamentary debates and negotiations. As a participant, you will be assigned to a specific country and AU committee, embodying the role of that country’s ambassador to the AU. Your task is to conduct in-depth research on the foreign policy of your assigned country in relation to the committee’s topic. This includes understanding historical contexts, current situations and proposing innovative solutions.
Armed with the comprehensive ALAMAU Study Guide and your independent research, you will write a one-page brief outlining your country’s position on the topic and its recommendations for resolving the issue. During the conference, delegates collectively propose recommendations and form alliances based on shared ideologies. The ultimate goal is to draft a resolution that addresses the committee’s topic and garners the support of other delegates.
Skills and Learning Across Borders 🧭
ALAMAU transcends the boundaries of traditional learning. Participating delegates develop critical thinking skills, engage in interdisciplinary research, and embrace diverse perspectives.
