Within Medicine Encompassed, the organization is student-run and has a 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. Its goal is to raise awareness and increase accessibility for those interested in future medical careers through a variety of media. The team, comprised of STEM-oriented individuals with a passion for biology, seeks to demonstrate the breadth of fields encompassed by medicine.

Commitment to Reducing Disparities in Medicine 🤝

Understanding the importance of expanding the medical field, the organization believes in embracing people from all walks of life, under a common interest. By bridging the gap between medicine, underrepresented minorities, and students from low-income backgrounds, the dedicated team works to create resources and opportunities in all medical fields.

The Medicine Encompassed team is comprised of students, some of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds. This makes the Medicine Encompassed team particularly sensitive to the issues that exist in this field. It allows them to establish a direct network between their team and the individuals they are trying to serve.

Medicine Encompassed Medical Committees 💊

Medicine Encompassed’s medical committees provide a unique opportunity for members interested in diverse areas of medicine. With areas ranging from anatomy and surgery to cardiology, dermatology, immunology, and more, each committee offers an in-depth exploration into a specific area of medical practice.
Whether you aspire to understand the intricacies of neurology, pediatrics or trauma, or want to explore emerging fields like biotechnology and optometry, each committee offers a comprehensive immersion and an opportunity to develop specialized skills.
Each member has the opportunity to contribute, learn, and collaborate with like-minded, passionate peers, with the ultimate goal of fostering global understanding and increased engagement in the medical field.

Roles within the Committees 🩺

Applicants have the opportunity to choose UP TO THREE (3) committees for which they wish to create content, as well as a corresponding position within each committee (writer, editor, or research/resource creator).
Candidates do NOT need to hold the same position for each committee if they are applying for multiple committees. (For example, you could be a cardiology editor, a biotechnology researcher, and an anatomy editor.)

1- Editors ✒️

Editors are responsible for writing in a variety of styles, from formal articles to poetry. Editors create multimedia works published via Medium, aimed at promoting a variety of topics such as neurology, cardiology, oncology, pediatrics, pathology, and more.

Preferred Skills:
• Mastery of the basics of English grammar
• Ability to write in various genres and writing forms
• Creativity and research if necessary
• Consistency of writing

Time Commitment:
Editors enjoy more flexible time slots, as they are typically required to create 1 article/post per week.

2- Publishers 🔍

Editors edit resources from blog posts to medical resources to social media posts. They ensure that all work is accessible to a diverse audience and is scientifically accurate.

Preferred Skills:
• Mastery of the basics of English grammar
• Ability to edit various genres and forms of writing
• Ability to provide constructive feedback to editors on their committee

Time Commitment:
Editors' schedules are more flexible, as the time commitment depends solely on the number of publications produced in their committee – typically around 1-2 hours per week.

3- Resource Creators 📚

Resource creators produce a variety of materials for high school and undergraduate students interested in medicine. They create study guides, lists of links and resources, and other content aimed at familiarizing peers with the importance of medicine and biology.

Preferred Skills:
• Search for relevant and scientifically accurate information
• Creativity in resource creation (generating multiple ideas and presenting different ways to display them)
• Consistency and presentation of resources

Time Commitment:
Around 1.5-2 hours per week – usually depends on the size of the resources being created.

General Departments 🏛️

If you are interested in joining the Graphic Design Team, Partnerships and Sponsorships Committee, or Marketing Department, please make sure you do not exceed the maximum number of committees/departments you can participate in.

The Department of Sponsorships and Partnerships 💵

Job Title: Sponsorships and Partnerships Coordinator

Members of this department will reach out to other organizations/companies (e.g., by sending emails). They will also perform general tasks, such as researching and reaching out to other companies for various sponsorships. They will also identify suitable organizations for partnerships to further promote the organization's mission. Additionally, this position also involves reaching out to other high school students around the world and recruiting others who are interested in the organization's mission.

Preferred Skills:
• Pleasant and sociable personality
• Good communication skills (emails, calls, meetings, etc.)
• Ability to communicate in a professional and friendly manner
• General openness and accessibility

Time Commitment:
Committee members will typically have flexible hours, but are expected to dedicate approximately 1-2 hours per week to research, emailing, direct messaging, etc.

The Graphic Design Department 🎨

Job Title: Graphic Designer

This team will also be responsible for producing graphics and designing media/illustrations that will be published on the organization’s website, related articles, social media posts, etc. Members will work closely with the Executive Graphic Designer and the Executive Director of Social Media & Marketing. Members will be assigned certain tasks by the Executive Graphic Designer and will be expected to produce all graphics in a timely manner. Graphic designers will work closely with the Executive Graphic Designer and the Executive Director of Social Media & Marketing to create the most appropriate content.

Preferred Skills:
• Proficiency in various design programs (experience with Canva is preferred, but not required)
• Production of graphics without using templates
• Creativity in all artistic forms

Time Commitment:
Graphic designers will tend to have flexible hours, depending on the graphics that need to be produced on a regular basis.

The Marketing Department 📱

Job Title: Marketing Specialist

Social Media and Marketing Specialists will be responsible for promoting the Medicine Encompassed brand through new, engaging and creative platforms. This will be done in a variety of ways, including through social media, including (but not limited to): TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.

Preferred Skills:
• Proficiency in writing and/or design
• Good communication skills
• Experience creating content for specific audiences (preferred, but not required)
• Experience with social media platforms

Time Commitment:
Marketers will typically have flexible hours, but are expected to dedicate approximately 1-2 hours per week.
