Welcome To Hack Club 👏
Every day, thousands of Hack Clubbers gather online and in person to create things with code. Whether you're a beginner programmer or have years of experience, there's a place for you at Hack Club.
Need help with a coding problem? Looking for feedback on your project? You’ll find hundreds of awesome people to chat with in the global Slack (similar to Discord), active at all hours. Meet other Hack Clubbers from your community to create together in one of the 400+ Hack Clubs and high school hackathons. Large open source projects are built together (3,000+ pull requests per year) like a website, a game engine, a daily streak system, and much more!
Exciting Projects to Get You Involved ✨
Here are some projects you could participate in:
• Sprig: Join hundreds of teens to create tile-based JavaScript games.
• Club Network: Join one of 400+ coding clubs around the world.
• Hack Club Bank: The leading fiscal sponsor for teens (we have crossed $8 million in transactions).
• Some Assembly Required: The fourth most starred repository on GitHub for Assembler.
• SineRider: Help build a game about love, math and graphics.
• The Orpheus Show: The podcast about Hack Club and its community.
• High school hackathons: A curated list of high school hackathons with hundreds of events.
• Workshops: Over 100 coding workshops to create a project in less than an hour.
• Circuit Boards: Join 1,000 teens to design PCBs, learn electronics, and build electronic devices.
• Haxidraw: An open source drawing machine and online editor for generative art.
An Online Community 🌎
Coding doesn’t have to be a solitary activity. At Hack Club, we create together, and in Slack you’ll find great people to hang out with. Code together, find your programming community, or just chill. Together with the engineers on the Hack Club team, Hack Clubbers build learning tools for each other. Get involved in these projects by building something with our tools or contributing directly to the tools themselves.
Coding Clubs in High School 🏫
Don’t run your coding club alone. Make it a Hack Club.
Hack Clubs discover the joy of coding. Hack Clubs typically meet for 1 hour each week at high schools, makerspaces, community centers, churches, and any other place where teens can gather. As the club leader, you introduce members (mostly beginners) to something to learn/create, and then members work at their own pace, building websites, apps, and games, and then presenting them at the end.
• A Group of Teens, Mostly Beginners, Get Together to Start Coding
The leader (that's you!) introduces for a few minutes, launching the group into building something new.
• Everyone Starts Working Individually
Not about hacking bank accounts, but rather about being creative and doing amazing things.
• Finally, Everyone Presents Their Work
As a leader, you cultivate a community of creators. Each member showcasing their work creates momentum and motivation.
• Go Beyond Club Meetings
Hack Clubs participate in and host hackathons like Windy City Hacks & Hack the Fog, offer summer programs like Hack Camp, and participate in events like the Congressional App Challenge. The possibilities are endless.
By Students, For Students 🧑🎓
• Coding is a Superpower: Learning to code is like gaining a superpower: it transforms you from a consumer to a creator. It shouldn’t be taught as a subject, but as a creative and inclusive space. To foster this environment, each Hack Club is student-led, with members completing self-directed projects.
• Do, from Anywhere: There’s never been a better time to create: anywhere in the world, anyone with a laptop and an internet connection can learn how to build an app. Creation has never been more democratized on a global scale.
• Hack, Hack, Hack: Hack Club's goal is to help you become a hacker. We want a space in every school where people create cool things with code every week. Schools don't provide it, so we create it in every school to make creation accessible to everyone.
• Start Building: Most coding courses teach you programming concepts instead of showing you how to write real code. It’s like trying to learn carpentry without wood. At Hack Club, you learn to code by building things. You start with no experience and build and deliver a project at every meeting.
• Learn by Building: Just as the best carpenters didn't learn in a classroom, neither do the best programmers. Through our workshops, you'll build projects by following instructions. At first, you won't understand how the code works, but you'll develop your understanding as you go. You'll get stuck along the way, but we're here to help.
• Be Part of a Community: Hack Club gives you a global community of thousands of other young creators to talk to. We’re artists, writers, engineers, tinkerers, campers, filmmakers, volunteers. We make stuff. We help each other. We have fun.
Welcome to the High School Hackathon ⏳
This is not a club, a class, or a conference. Hackathons are a place to build things for fun and meet other people who are doing the same thing.
A hackathon is a social coding marathon where teens come together to build projects over a weekend and share them with the world. A hackathon is a space that provides creators with everything they need to start building: mentors, collaborators, inspiration, and a goal to achieve. Hackers leave a hackathon with their own project, ready and excited to continue hacking when they get home.
