The Challenge of Global Affairs 🗺️ In the Hands of Moroccan High School Students 🥇

Developing SMART Solutions 🧠

World Affairs Challenge participants don’t wait until they’re older to make a positive difference in the world. Student teams are innovating sustainable solutions to global problems while they’re still in middle and high school! Enrolling in WAC offers a unique opportunity for Moroccan students to join a global sustainability initiative. WAC is an international program and competition for middle and high school students to develop and implement their own SMART solutions for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

WAC Is Not Just Wydad Casablancais 🌍

The “WAC” is an international program and competition based in Denver, but open to students from around the world.
Student teams learn to:
• Research and collaborate with field experts to understand the root causes of a specific global issue, and how it impacts communities around the world in different ways.
• Design SMART solutions to address the problem chosen by their team.
• Implement community service projects (WACtions) that contribute to solving the problem.
Student teams present their work to a panel of judges for feedback and scores.

The Mission and The Vision 🎯

ASSIGNMENT : Student teams at WAC are encouraged to become collaborative agents of change within their own communities and globally.
VISION : The team believes in a future where every person is an engaged and informed citizen of the world.

The WAC Open Competition 🥇

A group of 3-8 people can form a team to compete in the WAC Open Competition, which begins with the Collaborative Question experiment in January. The team will research a problem and define a SMART solution that they could potentially implement, then present their project to a panel of judges at the Preliminary Round Championship in late February. The top 20 % teams registered in the WAC Open Competition will qualify to develop their project and presentation and move on to the World Championship presentation in the spring.

World Championship 🏆

The World Championship takes place in early April. The top teams from the preliminary rounds (WACVE, WAC Intramural, and WAC Open Competition) will submit an updated video of their project research and proposed solution for judges to review, and will then meet with the judges for a Q&A session. The top three middle school and high school teams will be eligible to apply for a mini-grant to support the implementation of their project, and will be invited to present their project at the WAC Laureate Showcase in Denver, Colorado, in May.

Critical Skills and Global Solutions 🗺️

WAC participants gain essential transferable skills, practice cross-cultural communication, and make a difference in the world by implementing solutions to local challenges with global implications.
In 2023, more than 750 students from 9 different countries participated in WAC: Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Morocco, Iraq, Turkey, France and the United States!
